The whacky collective that is Cosatto is based in Bolton in an ancient redstone building with a Dickensian appearance, although all references to the past disappear the moment you reach reception, where you are blinded by the bright, lime green walls. As in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, the exterior hides the imaginative and creative goings-on inside.
You are first introduced to staff members via a washing line of Polaroids, gurning into the camera, their Christian names scrawled underneath. The red phone in the corner is there to announce your arrival but gives you the impression that something surreal might happen if you pick it up!
We were met by the brains behind the brand design, Creative Director, Vicky Morley and Marketing Consultant and Mummy Blogger, Claire Lancaster who led us through the labyrinth of corridors to the vast but playful showroom; a large white room with bright splashes of colour, shallow stages exhibiting the pushchairs and their whimsical stick-man icon appearing on every wall along with a mini motto, such as ‘It takes 2 baby’ above their twin pushchairs and ‘yummy’ over their high chair section. The room is full of charisma and their slogan ‘Baby stuff with personality!’ is never more evident.
Originally based in Italy, Cosatto was brought to the UK by a small nursery company back in the 1970s. In the past two years it has been completely reborn, a facelift that has given parents the opportunity to find something a little bit different.
The thing that makes Cosatto pushchairs stand out is their unique identity. Each model, from the Budi to the Yo has been scrutinized and designed to be different. The colour and character that is woven into their footmuffs and fabrics makes them individual but unmistakably Cosatto.
During the tour, we got the impression that the team behind this brand shared the enthusiasm exhibited by Vicky and Claire. We could hardly get a word in edgeways as they talked us through the models. Vicky keeps her creative sparkle bright by taking inspirational trips throughout the year. From as far as China to Holland ideas have been harvested and incorporated into fabrics, frame style or functionality. We will be finding out more about Vicky in her profile later this month.
Standing on the street, outside reception once more, we felt like Veruca Salt and Augustus Gloop. We returned back to the office, still trying to adjust our colour balance to normal, or bland?
Next week we will be taking an in-depth look in the Cosatto Cabi and posting our full review.
