Children the world over can get very inventive with some of the basics at their disposal and what better than a large cardboard box? Joolz have gone one step further and have decided to give their packaging a new lease of life by incorporating the potential for a new purpose in every box.
Directions for cutting and building are printed on the exterior so that you can have some fun assembling and using your box as a chair, a lampshade, a picture frame, or even a bird house! Just when you thought you had finished with self assembly projects in your nursery - along comes another challenge. Store the packaging until they are old enough and you and your child will have the perfect rainy afternoon project to get stuck into.
“It’s just really wasteful to throw away all that cardboard”, says creative director Emile Kuenen. “We like to contribute to a sustainable world and my belief is that every step one can take is a meaningful one. For that reason, we set up a special project team and they investigated our packaging thoroughly. They thought about giving the cardboard a second life and designed several products, which can be made out of the existing packing. At first, I saw the cardboard as a necessary evil to protect our products during carriage and storage, but now you can cut out all kinds of products and make them in to beautiful projects. I started to look at cardboard differently.”

Besides the above, the cup holder box will transform into a picture frame, the baby bodyguard and XL shopping basket exteriors will create attractive gift boxes. The netting that holds the smaller accessories can be used to hold pencils or other small items and with a bit of Blue Peter magic, the UV sun hood packaging will magically morph into a crib mobile.
Considering the fact that we are all feeling the pinch in the current economic climate, these are fun projects with a useful outcome, it’s also a great use of materials that would otherwise be thrown in the bin and you don’t need to be an Eco-warrior to know that can only be a good thing. Well done Joolz, we hope you set a president for large scale packaging, such as that used to transport pushchairs, to have more than one purpose in life.
